Much of the film feels more like a behind the scenes featurette for the finished product than a completed film. If the lost privacy of a supermodel who cannot escape the perpetual spotlight of the male gaze is a central theme to the film, then constantly invading her space against her repeated demands to turn off the camera or stop filming only achieves to establish an intrusive and uncomfortable vibe for the viewer and artificially create the precise basis of her angst. Perhaps less honest filmmakers would have cut that footage out, but given the nature of the film's subject, it really just makes everything worse. Despite her vocal insistence on remaining private, her son films her changing, taking a s. and sleeping. I think there exist more delicate and respectful ways to pay respect to an elderly woman's poignant desire to disappear from a world in which her existence was defined within still images tailored to man's concept of beauty. Only at the end of the film does the filmmaker unveil his mother's responses to the existential questions he poses at the beginning (when this still had much promise. Whatever this movie was supposed to be about was entirely lost in the creepy and violating manner in which it was made. Abrams wanted to continue to have that real feeling to using locations like Wadi Rum in Jordan. During the pre-show they showed Kylo Ren in Jordan but that may have been from the Vanity Fair shoot. But theres a lot of indications he does have scenes there. Billy Dee Williams said I was sweet. The other people too but I think he mostly meant me. It was really nice to see Billy Dee Williams on the stage for a new Star Wars movie. Williams looked great on the Falcon in the picture the showed of him in his yellow shirt. Her journey to Ahch-To and eventual confrontation with Palpatine are evidence that the family she has with Luke, Leia, Finn, and Poe is the one that matters. These are the people she has been able to depend on for guidance and security, and who have helped her to grow as a person. Her proclamation at the end of the film is a poignant metaphor that Rey knows who her true family is. Much like her mentors Luke and Leia had to overcome their ancestry, Rey similarly chooses to forge a new path and create her own family. Fear is the path to the dark side When Yoda said in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace that “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering, ” it cemented our understanding of what motivated Darth Vader in the first place: fear. His fear that he would lose Padmé drove him to betray the Jedi and abandon his core values. The results are legendary and catastrophic. Fear led Anakin to the dark side of the Force, and into deadly collaboration with Palpatine. It was also fear that drove Luke Skywalker to Ahch-To, and arguably allowed for the First Order to grow at a more rapid pace. Luke says as much in The Rise of Skywalker when he tells Rey that fear is what kept him in isolation on the planet for as long as it did. However, he tells Rey, “Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi, ” which is another way of saying that once you face your fears, acknowledge them, and overcome them, you are more likely to be able to resist the temptation of fear that leads to the dark side. Ironically, Reys fear of what she might become manifests itself into an antithetical vision of her atop Palpatines throne (complete with fangs. Her choice to run to Ahch-To to get away from what she is afraid of mirrors her master, Luke Skywalker. But once she learns you cant run from trouble, either real or imagined, she starts to understand the wisdom of facing the inner demons that plague her. Like so many others in the Star Wars galaxy, the dark side, with fear as its ally, clouds everything. Fortunately, Rey has some excellent teachers, as well as more strength than she realizes. Anger negatively impacts our choices and takes us down the wrong path One of the reasons fear is so dangerous is because it leads to anger. This anger tends to lend itself to choices that are difficult, if not impossible, to undo. Luke gives into anger on when Darth Vader threatens to turn Leia in his place. Anakin gives in to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader, and Kylo Rens blind anger upon seeing Luke Skywalker allows the Resistance to escape and survive. It happens to the best the galaxy has to offer. It varies in degree but never ends well. For instance, at the beginning of The Rise of Skywalker during her Jedi training with Leia, Rey becomes angry, tosses her lightsaber in frustration, and inadvertently topples a tree onto BB-8. Later in the film, during a pivotal dual on Kef Bir, Rey stabs Kylo Ren with his own lightsaber, mortally wounding her enemy. This is not the path of the Jedi; in fact, she instigated the fight, angered by his destruction of the wayfinder. Once she calms down, gets rid of her anger, and finds peace, she is able to heal Kylo Rens wound. When you stand up to a bully, it inspires others to do the same It takes a lot to stand up to a bully. They dont fight fair, never take anyones feelings into consideration, and are not kind. Queue the biggest bully in the galaxy, Emperor Palpatine. His constant obsession with galactic domination takes on a whole new meaning in The Rise of Skywalker. He has manipulated both the First Order and the Resistance (similar to his machinations in the prequel trilogy) and now seeks to cement his place as the personification of the Sith from the planet Exegol. He is absolutely overwhelming, but so is Rey. While she is certainly aware of the inherent danger, she does not back down from his persistent menace. But Rey isnt the only one to face tyranny. As the Final Order fleet emerges from planets crust, heroes need to rise up, too. In a similar vein to the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War, the Resistance must take on the oppressive Final Order if freedom is to be restored across the galaxy. The First Order has superior weaponry, the advantage in numbers, and malicious intent, but the Resistance has guts, tenacity, and a refusal to acquiesce to any bully, no matter how deadly. Once Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca show up with immeasurable reinforcements, we are reminded, alongside a temporarily defeated Poe Dameron, that once you stand up to a bully, others are inspired to do so as well. Redemption and choice In Darth Vader, we have a powerful example of the power of redemption. It is never easy and often comes at great cost, but it can be done. We just have to choose the right path. And the more difficult the path, the more poignant the redemption turns out to be. It certainly took Vader a long time to get out of his own way and choose light over darkness, but when he did, the tide of the war changed, and the Empire was soon defeated. It is ironic then, that Kylo Ren finds a similar path for himself, especially when he has spent his time with the Knights of Ren trying to live up to the legacy of his grandfather. He wanted to live up to the reputation of Darth Vader, but instead, chooses the path of Anakin Skywalker. Once he faces his inner demons, he helps to subvert the wishes of Palpatine and saves Rey from certain death. Ultimately, it is our choices that define who we are and who we want to be remembered as. Ben Solo, much like Anakin Skywalker, makes his choice at the end, continuing the Skywalker legacy of turning from darkness and heading to the light. Watching again 2k19. First let me say I have never seen the original version (but I may try and watch it now) so I have nothing to compare this to. That said, I really liked the first about 70-75 minutes or so and was thinking OK this might end up being an 8. Then suddenly it was like the movie was being directed by a completely different person for the last 30 min or so. There was this whole scene that looked more like it belonged as the intro to a season of AHS than it did a scene in a movie. Twice they used some red filter on short cuts focused on characters played by the Soska sisters themselves but there was no reason for it. Scenes that the red filter might have made sense were shot normally. As far as the "vampires" go they couldn't even decide on which kind to be so do them right? Why not. They had the "classic" neck bitting kind, the Strain (snake appendage) kind, the mutated Resident Evil kind, and maybe something else I am forgetting. The stark contrast between the beginning and end of this movie leads me to believe that one sister directed the first half and the other sister the second half. If that is true only the one that directed the first half should be allowed to direct anymore.
All that said, at least I was entertained for the 100ish minutes of run time and trust me when I say there are many far worse movies you could watch. So watch it if you wish, but don't make it your first pick, and don't feel like you missed out if you don't.

A remarkable achievement by filmmaker Alla Kovgan, spending seven years to make this classic tribute to the late dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Working with both archive footage and valuable sound recordings, she conjures up the avant-garde artist through recordings of his work, his philosophy of his art and comments by many close collaborators including notably John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Not meant as a biopic, film concentrates on spectacularlhy cinematic (in 3-D) new performances of many of his dances, executed by members of his company, which disbanded in 2011, after Merce's death in 2009.
At a q&a following the screening, Kovgan indicated that Wim Wenders' innovative 2011 3-D dance film about German choreographer Pina Bausch inspired her to take on this formidable project, finally starting shooting in Stuttgart in 2015 with principal photography taking place in 2018.
Her use of 3-D technique is outstanding, resulting in gripping visual images, enhanced by the accompaniment of the original dance scores by John Cage and others. For a novice like me, not overly familiar with Merce's achievements, the movie brings his dance to life and points to how 3-D technology can be used artfully rather than as a gimmick, or its current excuse to permit higher price points for movie admissions to films, both animated and action-oriented, that should play just as well if not better in 2-D on large screens.

It's just amazing ! 🙂🙂. First of all the film carries a resemblance to the 2002 M Night Shyamalan's Movie " Signs" but manages to be the usual run of mill creature thriller flick with pretty good jump scares. br> So to start it has our main character who is being interrogated by the police on suspicion of making her daughter disappear. A series of flashbacks shows mother and child experiencing weird stuff when her daughter apparently seems to be stalked by something evil because she saw strange UFO lights in their backyard. Next we have a police officer being called over multiple times and the usual routine and when she arrives, mum tells a story about weird things happening that indicate haunting apparitions.
There's also a lot of shifting camera shots of light that are done well. Now there are some good elements of this movie and although it can work out as a decent horror creature flick, it could have been better if something about dealing with human issues of relationship is included as the backdrop. But instead we get a scene where our protagonist's kid disappears and mum gets blamed for it. The usual premise and next this entire horror apparition aspect of the film switches track when we get our alien jumping out from the ground and to a corn field.I feel this part of the film should have been done better as the creature looks neither menancing nor visceral.
The plot is suspenseful and interesting to say at very to say, the plot isn't really a plot, because it is "all over the place" and "makes no sense. it's just a waste of your time. In the end everything is explained, and most of your questions are answered.

Overall i would say watchable for the constant flow in the screenplay. The major flaws are some quirks in acting performances where the character lack some vibrancy or just being too flat. One may like it for some edge of the seat flow in the screenplay and this this film not just another usual B movie 't be too critical when watching it, and u will enjoy the film.
